The second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kolkata could see the Prime Ministers of the two countries sharing the stage as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has sent an official invitation to the two Prime Ministers to attend the match, a report in IANS suggests.
The update has come just a few days after Sourav Ganguly, President of Cricket Association of Bengal, is confirmed to take over as BCCI’ President next week. It is not known whether Ganguly invited the two PMs but since his association has sent the invitations, he might have been in known of things regarding the update.
Should the Prime Ministers of two countries share the stage, it will be fist time after World Cup 2011 that a visiting PM will watch a match in India. In 2011, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh watched the semi-final of WC with Pakistan PM Yousuf Raza Gilani. Inda defeated Pakistan to qualify for the final.
Nothing has been confirmed yet and it remains to be seen if the PMs of two countries come at Eden Gardens next month.
It is to be noted that Sheikh Hasina, on occasions, has been seen in Bangladesh’s matches. She was also present at the stadium when Bangladesh stunned Australia in the second Test of the series in 2017.
The India-Bangladesh series kicks off with the first T20I to be played in Delhi on November 3. The next two T20Is will be played on November 7 and 10 in Rajkot and Nagpur, respectively. The first Test of the series will be played in Indore from November 14 while Eden Gardens will host the second Test from November 22.
The last time India hosted Bangladesh in a Test, the hosts won by 208 runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored 204 off 216. It will just the second in time in history that India will host Bangladesh in a Test series.
