Indian batsman and test skipper Virat Kohli’s name has come under the scanner in the recent car scams that took place in Mumbai. There have been questions raised about the player’s involvement in the call center scam that recently happened in Thane.

But the police who are investigating the case have dismissed the speculations as they confirmed that there is no involvement of Virat Kohli. The cricketer has sold his Audi R-8, a long time ago, to  Sagar Thakkar a.k.a Shaggy who is the kingpin the scam which has led to the speculations.

However, a source within Thane Police said, “According to our investigation, Shaggy’s girlfriend is a huge Virat Kohli fan. As a gesture on her birthday, he wanted to surprise her with this gift as it belonged to the cricketer. The exact price of the vehicle is Rs 3 crore, which is the ongoing market price. However, Virat’s representatives sold the car for Rs 2.5 crore to him. Both the cricketer and his representatives were in touch with him about the car’s sale but were completely unaware of his background. It is purely co-incidental.”

However, Thane Police commissioner Param Bir Singh has put the doubts to bed as he confirmed that there is no way Virat Kohli was involved.

“Please don’t blow the matter out of proportion, there is no way Virat or his representatives would know that he was running a racquet. It is a purely co-incidental matter.”

According to the police, Thakkar is said to be staying in a hideout in Dubai as the police are trying to arrest him.
