Pranav’s father clarifies why his son wasn’t selected over Arjun Tendulkar
Ever since Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun was selected in West Zone’s Under-16 squad despite his low key performances recently, social media was abuzz with debates on whether it was right to give junior Tendulkar this golden opportunity and not the record-breaker, Pranav Dhanawade, who had smashed a staggering 1,000 runs in a single innings.
However, now Dhanawade’s father has entered the arena to clear the air regarding the team selection claiming his son was not selected because he was ineligible to be inducted into the team. Prashant Dhanawade also confirmed a section of their fraternity was simply spreading false stories over Pranav’s non-selection.
But the question remains why Pranav is ineligible to be selected for West Zone? The reason is quite clear, the U-16 team is generally picked from the MCA U-16 team, and Pranav was not a part of that squad. Arjun, an all-rounder, was a part of MCA’s squad, that’s why he was eligible to be picked.
The squad, announced by Baroda Cricket Association secretary Snehal Parikh, was selected by the All India Junior Selection Committee last week on May 23rd. The meeting was presided by its chairman Rakesh Parikh and the selection committee comprises coaches Tushar Arothe, Shantanu Sugwekar, Samir Dighe and J Krishna Rao.
Add to mix the face that Arjun Tendulkar is an all-rounder and would not have been competing with Pranav in any case.
Further, the Arjun Tendulkar bashing, which indirectly targets cricket legend Sachin, comes at a time when comedian Tanmay Bhat is being hauled over the coals over his video ‘mocking’ Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar.
Prashant further also said that Pranav’s record-breaking knock of 1,009 was unfortunately after the selection trials, so the question of his inclusion in the team doesn’t even arise.
This actually puts aside all the rumours that Arjun was selected because of Sachin Tendulkar while Pranav didn’t get the chance because he is a driver’s son. Prashant also informed that both Arjun and Pranav are still good friends and this controversy has not come between their friendship.
