Pravin Tambe Hoping To Play ‘Lot Of Matches’ For Sunrisers Hyderabad
Veteran leg-spinner Pravin Tambe hopes to be in thick of action for his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The 45-year-old, who played 13 and 10 matches in the 2014 and 2015 editions respectively for Rajasthan Royals, played a limited role for Gujarat Lions (GL) last year.
In 2016 IPL, the leggie appeared in only seven matches, taking 5 wickets and conceding almost nine runs per over. But now he hopes to play an integral for the defending champions.
“SRH is a well-run franchise. They are defending champions as well. Hopefully, I will get a chance to play a lot of matches. It doesn’t matter which franchise I’m playing for as my only goal is to perform well,” Tambe told The Times Of India on Friday (February 25).
When asked about whether he was hurt after GL released him, he said:
“It’s a part and parcel of every sportsperson’s life. I have never taken such things negatively. I played seven matches for Gujarat last season and did well apart from maybe one or two matches, which is inevitable especially in the T20 format.”
The leg-spinner is currently in Chennai with the Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“I was selected in the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare knockouts back in 2013, but I didn’t get to play and we lost that game. I have performed well for both Mumbai and West Zone in the T20s recently. So I am hoping to play this time around,” Tambe said.
“I enjoy the longer format as much as the shorter formats. But I have got most of my chances only in the T20 format. I cannot do anything about it,” added the bowler who has played only a couple of Ranji games for Mumbai since making his debut at 42.
Meanwhile, the bowler said he still has no plans of quitting the game.
“Only when you keep saying that I’m 45, am I reminded of my age. Otherwise, I don’t think about it. I feel I am extremely fit and can do all the things on the field that are required. Till the time that I am enjoying the game, I will keep playing,” Tambe concluded.
