The 23rd April will see Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians clash at Feroshah Kotla, New Delhi from 8.00 PM (IST). Delhi Daredevils lost their previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders whereas Mumbai Indians registered their first win by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 18 runs. It is an important clash for both the teams. It will be an exciting battle to watch as Mumbai won after losing 4 matches on a trot. Both of the teams need victories.
PREVIOUS YEAR CLASHES
The first time they met was on 27th April at Sharjah. It was a low scoring match. Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat. Their top order failed miserably with Rohit Sharma, Tare, Anderson, Rayadu and Hussey getting out. Pollard and CM Gautuam partnership helped Mumbai Indians reach a score of 125 for 6 in 20 over’s. While Chasing Delhi openers gave a solid start of 34 runs. Murali Vijay scored 40 runs and KP scoring 26 not out. Delhi Daredevils won the match by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare.
After 20 days they both met again but this in Mumbai. It was a high scoring match. Delhi won the toss and elected to field. Simmons, Mike Hussey and Rohit Sharma contributed but the rest of batting failed. Mumbai Indians scored 173 all out in 19.3 overs. While Chasing Despite a brave effort from KP, Jadhav and Duminy, Delhi fell short of the target by 15 runs
In the previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Simmons provided a brilliant start to the team and put the bad balls away to the boundaries. He scored 59 off 44 balls and laid the foundation of a big score. Against Delhi Daredevils he needs to provide again a solid start to the team.
Harbhajan Singh was the man of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore picking 3 important wickets. He created pressure by bowling dot balls and did not let Chris Gayle to hit big strokes but also got him out. When De Villers was hitting he came and took 2 important wickets. Against Delhi Daredevils he will be again important to continue his good form and get back Mumbai Indians back on track.
Against Kolkata Knight Riders he played some good shots while he was at the crease. He timed the ball very well and hit wonderful strokes. He scored 21 off 19 balls but got out at the wrong time. Against Mumbai Indians, his contribution will help Delhi Daredevils to put pressure on the Mumbai Indians team.
Imran Tahir has bowled brilliantly in the tournament so far being the highest wicket taker. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi did not have too much to defend. Against Mumbai Indians he has put pressure on the batsman and not let the big hitters like Pollard, Rohit Sharma to hit big strokes.
