Today’s match will witness upbeat Sunrisers Hyderabad against struggling Kings XI Punjab at Hyderabad from 8.00 PM onwards. Sunrisers are in need of a win to stay in the competition where Punjab will look to play positive cricket. Sunrisers won their previous match against Delhi by 6 runs where as Punjab posted 184 but lost again. The last time they met in this tournament Sunrisers beat Punjab.
When these two teams met in this year’s edition Sunrisers beat Punjab at on 27th April 2015 at Mohali. Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field. Sunrisers captain David Warner began off to great start taking on bowlers. He scored 58 off 41 balls and laid the foundation for a big score. The rest of batting which had Henquires scored 28, Naman Ojha scored 28 and Ashish Reddy scored 22 off 8 balls helped Sunrisers post a modest 150 for 6 in 20 overs. While chasing 151 Punjab never got off to a good start losing wickets at regular intervals. The top scorer for Punjab was Saha with 42 and the rest of batting failed to score runs. The top bowlers for Sunrisers were Boult and Kumar picking 2 and 3 wickets each. Sunrisers won the match by 20 runs.
Against Delhi Daredevils he played a vital innings of 74 runs off 46 balls. When Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and Eoin Morgan were back in the hut, he and Karn Sharma steadied the innings. At the end overs he smashed the Delhi bowlers all over the park and ensured that Sunrisers posted 163 for 4 in 20 overs.
He has been the pick of bowlers for Sunrisers in this year’s IPL edition. In the previous match against Delhi he picked a wicket with the new ball. But when Delhi needed 22 off 12 balls Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a brilliant over conceding 6 runs only. He bowled 4 overs and conceded 20 runs picking up 1 wicket also. Against Kings XI Punjab he needs to do same job of picking early wickets. It is nice to see Bhuvneshwar has learned the art of bowling Yorkers at the death overs.
Glenn Maxwell was in poor form prior to the last game against KKR. He showed his power and scored 43 off 22 balls including 4 fours and 3 sixes. He took on the spinners and just did not allow them to settle. With the ball he also picked 1 wicket. Against Sunrisers he needs to perform well again if they have to defeat a confident Sunrisers team.
Sandeep Sharma did not pick up a wicket in the previous match against KKR. He bowled 4 overs and gave away 35 runs at an economy of 8.75. He swings the ball and does not give the batsmen proper room. In today’s match against Sunrisers he needs to take care that he does not give too many runs to openers.
