TogglePrithvi Shaw failed to score much-needed runs to boost his lost confidence at the first Adelaide Test between India and Australia managing scores of 0 and 4 in two innings.
While he faced only 2 balls in 1st innings, he faced 4 balls to score as many runs in the second innings but fell soon in the 3rd session of 2nd day’s play.
Prithvi Shaw Dismissed Cheaply In Both Innings Of 1st Test
Pacer Pat Cummins accounted for his wicket in the fag end of 2nd day’s play. While he played on and was bowled off the bowling of Mitchell Starc in 1st innings, he perished off a Pat Cummins delivery in 2nd innings. The gap between bat and pad was exposed both times as the ball traversed through to dismantle the stumps.
India scored 244 in first innings and the Indian bowlers came back hard to reduce Australia to 111/7 before Tim Paine fought but were eventually dismissed for a paltry 191 as India gained a healthy 53 run 1st innings lead. India now leads by 62 runs after end of 2nd day’s play as the team are 9/1 currently.
Prithvi Shaw had a dismal IPL 2020 too scoring 228 runs in 13 IPL games averaging a pathetic 17.53 with only two fifties. So, it was quite a surprise to see him included in Indian XI for the 1st Day-Night Test. The selectors and team management decided to probably give him a chance ahead of Shubman Gill who is yet to debut in Tests and KL Rahul who performed poorly in last few Tests.
Prithvi Shaw was probably selected as he averages almost 50 in 4 Tests and has a century too in India against West Indies when he became the youngest Indian to score a ton in debut. But they probably forgot the fact that he is not in form like Shubman Gill or KL Rahul, who performed magnificently in IPL 2020. KL Rahul is the current Orange Cap holder by virtue of scoring maximum runs in IPL 2020 while Shubman Gill too top-scored for his franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders,
Prithvi Shaw Needs To Go Back And Play At Domestic Level Again: Dodda Ganesh
Prithvi Shaw got selected over Shubman Gill, who looked in good touch in the second pink-ball warm-up game against Australia A in Sydney where he scored 43 and 65 batting at number 3, while opener Prithvi Shaw scored 40 and 3 at the top of the order.
Both failed in first practice game as both of them failed to score in first innings. Prithvi Shaw scored 19 while Shubman Gill scored 29 in second innings of a first practice game.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting predicted Prithvi Shaw’s exact mode of dismissal seconds before the Indian opener was bowled for a second-ball duck after India opted to bat first in the historic first-ever day-night Test match against Australia in Adelaide on Thursday. He explained that the young India opener tends to leave a gap between his bat and pad while playing in-coming deliveries.
Prithvi Shaw needs to go back and play a couple of years at the domestic level. He was fast tracked simply because of the aura that was created around him. He has way too many chinks to be opening at the test level #DoddaMathu #AUSvIND

Dodda Ganesh, the former pacer was critical of Prithvi Shaw even saying he should play a couple of more years at the domestic level to improve upon his footwork and stance.
