Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi bowled a blazing opening spell against Peshawar Zalmi in a PSL 2023. Afridi took five wickets to help his side Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi in a high-scoring PSL thriller. The Pakistan pacer opened the attack by breaking Peshwar opener Mohammad Haris’ bat into two halves and then, sent the stumps flying on the very next delivery.

Shaheen Afridi has been in sensational form in Lahore Qalandar in PSL 2023. The Lahore captain ended up picking up a five-wicket haul, returning brilliant figures of 5 for 40 in four overs. His brilliant performance helped Lahore Qalandars restrict Peshawar Zalmi to 201/9.

After a scrappy start, Peshawar recovered to a large extent due to individual half-centuries by Peshawar batters Tom Kohler-Cadmore (55) and Saim Ayub (51). However, the duo falling within six deliveries after sharing a 44-ball 91-run third-wicket partnership led to the team’s downfall, especially with the middle-order not contributing as per the need of the hour.

Earlier, Shaheen Afridi won the toss and chose that Qalandars will bat first and they did take full advantage of the batting-friendly Lahore pitch. The Shaheen Afridi-led team ended with a mammoth 241/3 in 20 overs with Fakar Zaman scoring a fantastic 96 in 45 balls. The left-arm pacer has enjoyed an impressive outing in his comeback in the PSL, taking 10 wickets in four matches so far.

“The overall credit goes to the batters as they were confident about going out and batting first on this green wicket. We have depth and variety in our bowling attack. With the arrival of Billings, the middle order has become stronger. All the teams are going well and we can’t take anyone lightly in this tournament. I tried my best and focused on landing the ball on the hard length area and it worked for me,” Shaheen said after the match.

Shaheen made a comeback to cricketing action with the Pakistan Super League after spending over two months away from the game owing to his knee injury. Shaheen has been a terrific performer for Pakistan in all three formats since he made his debut for Pakistan in all three formats and will look to come back fully fit for Pakistan with Asia Cup and ODI World Cup scheduled later.
