PSL Corruption: PCB Forms Three-Member Tribunal Committee To Hear Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif’s Case

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has framed a three-member committee on Monday for the cash-rich alleged Pakistan Super League (PSL), corruption case in which two national players were ‘provisionally’ suspended following an investigation of spot-fixing during the recently concluded second edition of the Twenty20 League.

The PCB appointed retired Justice Asghar Haider as the head of the tribunal, who was also the legal advisor to the board in the past, followed by former board’s chairman Tauqir Zia and ex-wicket-keeper batsman Wasim Bari.

The three-member panel is supposed to provide the status report within 90 days of cricketers’ suspension.

However, PSL franchise Islamabad United players’ Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan have admitted to the breach of the code of conduct set by the cricket governing body in the state as they were charged under the articles of Clause 2, but has further denied some serious allegations.

The charged were levelled against them by the board’s Anti-Corruption Unit regulations last month when Islamabad United won the inaugural game against second edition’s Title winners Peshawar Zalmi.

Both players were suspended by the PCB when the reports surfaced that they were holding the meeting with the international syndicate to corrupt the lucrative league in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The game in Dubai saw Sharjeel scoring just a single off four deliveries and Latif was not listed in the Playing XI.

On February 18, both cricketers were handed charge sheets for which they had to respond within two weeks after failing to inform the board about the approaches from bookies.

However, following the strong case against the players, if found guilty could also face the lifetime ban.

The reports also suggested if they have had accepted the charges the board would have announced one-member disciplinary panel to decide the fate of the players while following the appropriate sanctions.
