Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans have appointed Tom Moody as their new head coach.

Former Pakistan skipper and the team’s director of cricket Wasim Akram revealed the news at a ceremony to launch the Sultans’ kit on Friday (September 22).

“Tom Moody has a great experience of coaching, especially for franchise-based cricket. His presence will lead Multan to new heights,” said the highest wicket-taker in One-Day Internationals.

Moody is one of the most experienced coaches in the world cricket. The former Australia all-rounder is already serving as the head coach of two T20 franchises –  Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League and Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League. The former Sri Lanka coach, who had guided the Islanders to the final of the 2007 World Cup, took the Sunrisers to the IPL title in 2016.

Asher Schon, Multan Sultans’ director, welcomed Moody’s appointment and said:

“I believe, in Tom, we have found the ideal man for this role. He possesses years of coaching experience with various franchises, which enables him to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and player development.”

Moody was also delighted to get the role and posted a video on Twitter to express his feelings.

“I am looking forward to being involved with Multan Sultans next year for the PSL and partnering-up with my old mate Wasim Akram,” he said.

“Great things ahead for the new side in the PSL. Looking forward to working with all the local talent and putting together a great team for the success in the future,” he added.

In addition to being one of the most sought-after coaches in the world at the moment, Moody also had a good experience of international cricket as a player. He represented Australia in eight Tests and 76 One-Day Internationals, scoring over 1600 international runs in addition to picking up 54 wickets.
