The owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, Alamgir Tareen, committed suicide on Thursday, according to Geo News. Multan Sultans were the sixth team added to the PSL in 2017.

It is owned by a consortium led by Alamgir Khan Tareen, the majority shareholder, and Ali Khan Tareen became the new owner of the team in December 2018. In 2021, Alamgir Khan Tareen took over as the sole owner.

The Multan Sultans have won the Pakistan Super League once, in the 2021 season. They are captained by Mohammad Rizwan and former Zimbabwe player Andy Flower is their head coach. The features some big names like Shan Masood, Anwar Ali, Khushdil Shah, and Shahnawaz Dahani among the Pakistani players.

In foreign recruits, they have the likes of David Miller, Adil Rashid, Tim David, and Rilee Rossouw.

However, the news of their owner committing suicide will be a huge setback for the franchise and their future in the Pakistan Super League now becomes uncertain.

Lahore Police Confirms Alamgir Tareen Shot Himself In The Head

Alamgir Khan Tareen, a brother of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Patron-in-Chief Jahangir Khan Tareen and owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans, allegedly shot himself in the head with a pistol at his residence located in the Gulberg area of Lahore, police said.

According to the police officials present at the scene of the incident, Tareen left a hand-written suicide note which stated that he was “suffering from an illness” but no additional details were shared in this regard.

The 63-year-old was unmarried but was supposed to tie the knot later this year in December. Tareen established a name for himself as a leading businessman in South Punjab and operated one of the largest water purification plants in the country.

Multan Sultans CEO Haider Azhar, confirming the news, expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the Tareen family.

“Alamgir Tareen was a valued member of our team and a well-respected personality. We are deeply saddened by his sudden and untimely demise. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time,” Azhar stated.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the factors that may have contributed to Alamgir Tareen’s distress and subsequent decision.
