Following the trials and tribulations owing to the specially appointed three-member committee’s verdict, the top-order batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif reportedly could face lengthy bans, as they are further supposed to shell out the staggering amount of two million, as a fine after being grilled in the spot-fixing scam in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Moreover, the reports suggested the players could face a round of 20 lakh each after breaching the Anti-Corruption Code of the Board.

The reliable sources with the PCB revealed the batters could face a ban of five years.

“The two cricketers are expected to get similar bans when the tribunal gives its verdict early next month,” an official of PCB was quoted by PTI

The reports further revealed PCB has completed all its formalities including the evidence against both the accused players.

Soon after the inaugural match of the T20 competition which was eventually won by the current champion Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets. However, the Anti-Corruption wing swung into action, in a bid to tighten the grip on the bookmakers.

Pertinently, since February 2017, the probe has further quizzed four other Pakistan national players in which two were handed over a short-term ban in the form of lanky fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formed a three-member committee which eventually has witnessed the Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing the cases including Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed, who was enjoying the holidays in England when the scandal surfaced.

In March this year, the three-member committee was formed and it’s being headed by a former High Court judge Asghar Haider, who will announce the verdict on Wednesday (August 30).

First of all, the focus will be on the left-handed batsman Sharjeel before deciding the fate of right-handed batsman Khalid, who represented Pakistan in 13 Twenty20 Internationals and five One-day Internationals after making his debut in 2008 at Faisalabad against Zimbabwe.

On the other side, Sharjeel, who was seen as a big prospect for Pakistan batting owing to his explosive batting featured in 25 ODIs followed by 15 T2OIs and a solitary Test.

The similarity in the case has been that players allegedly met the international booking syndicate, who are looking forward to corrupt the matches.

Sharjeel alongside Latif was playing for PSL franchise Islamabad United under the leadership of Misbah-Ul-Haq.
