Hashim Amla in his World Cup match against Ireland, played a brilliant knock and also scored his 20th ODI century in his 107th inning, which has also made him the fastest player to reach this mark. Amla broke the record of one of the most promising batsmen in Indian cricket right now.

Stat updated till 3rd March, 2015

Hashim Amla took 108 innings to reach his 20th ODI 100, which made him the quickest player to reach this feat as he bettered the record of one of the most promising Indian batsman Virat Kohli. It took Kohli 133 innings to reach the same mark, which Amla reached in 108. Other players in this list include the likes of Sachin Tendulkar who took 197 innings, Sourav Ganguly (214) and other.

In this list there are just three players who are currently playing ODI cricket and they are Hashim Amla, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. Among the 3, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle and tied at the top with 22 centuries each.

The irony in the performance of Gayle and Kohli is that, Gayle began his ODI career way back in the year 1999 and Kohli entered ODI cricket only in the year 2008 yet both the players are tied with 22 centuries each. Though Gayle has scored 3000 odd runs more than Kohli but it won’t be long before Kohli overtakes Gayle in terms of runs too. While there are many other players who are close to reaching the 20 century mark in ODIs, there is nobody at present who would be threat for the likes of Kohli or Amla.
