Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is in brilliant form with the ball. The ace spinner had an outstanding series in West Indies with the ball where he finished the series as its highest wicket-taker. Ashwin took 17 wickets in 4 matches and his brilliant helped him to bag the Man of the Series award. He was in good form with the bat too and scored 235 runs with the help of two centuries.
The Man of the Series award was the sixth of his short career. Ashwin now holds the record of most Man of the Series awards in Tests by an Indian cricketer. He is also the quickest to achieve the brilliant milestone. He has won his six awards in only 36 Test matches and 13 series.
Another milestone in sight:
India is now set to play a three-match Test against New Zealand which will start on September 22 and the star off-spinner will have a golden chance to become the second quickest bowler in the history of Test cricket to take 200 scalps. In 36 matches, the Tamil Nadu has taken 193 wickets and seven more wickets in the first Test at Kanpur will see him surpass legendary bowlers Pakistan’s Waqar Younis and Australia’s Dennis Lillee. The legendary pacers are tied at No.2 spot in the list of the fastest to 200 Test wickets. Lillee and Younis took 38 Tests to achieve the milestone. Former Australian leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett is leading this list. He took only 36 Tests to achieve the milestone.
In the last home series against South Africa, Ashwin took an astonishing 36 wickets in only four matches and he can fancy his chances of achieving the milestone against a New Zealand team which is known for struggling against spinners.
