Indian off-spinner R Ashwin may not be the part of Virat Kohli’s limited-over plan, but this has had no impact on him heaping praises on the skipper and his deputy, Rohit Sharma.

Here is what R Ashwin tweeted in context to innings of both the players in fifth ODI against New Zealand –
? number 32, watching a game from the start after a long time. Top knock from @imVkohli , over to the bowlers now to seal another series.

Couldn't fit @ImRo45 in the same tweet, his knock deserved a separate tweet. Class and style personified, well done on another ton bro.

R Ashwin is currently playing Ranji Trophy in Tamil Nadu. Though, he is a part of the Indian team in Test format and will soon join the team in time to come.

Coming to the ongoing ODI, it was a day when the Indian batsmen made merry and posted a total of 337 on the board in their quota of 50 overs. Rohit Sharma, the opener and Virat Kohli, the number three batsman, shone for the team and went on to blast centuries.

Rohit played an innings of 147 off 138 before getting out in the 42nd over of the game. He had a chance of coming close to his third double century, but the batsman seemed to be tired and was caught ahead of the boundary off Mitchell Santner.
Kohli too made merry on a batting friendly pitch and scored 113 runs. He went on to tumble oodles of records all throughout his innings. Firstly, he crossed the figure of 9000 runs in ODI cricket and secondly, became the fastest ever batsman to cross this record in the least appearances. Thirdly, he added one more century in his bag and inched a little closer to the record of 49 centuries by Sachin Tendulkar.

Should Kohli play 3-4 years of more cricket, there are no doubts that would emerge as a talent ahead of Sachin Tendulkar in this format of the game. Tendulkar had scored 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs at an average of 44.83. He also played a total of six World Cups as well.
Kohli though might have that longevity in his career but the way he is performing right now, he may also not need these much matches to earn these accolades.
Talking of the last ODI, at the time of writing, New Zealand were one down with a score of 126 in 20 overs.
