Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is hopeful of R Ashwin turning up for their first game of the Ranji trophy, subjected to his non-selection in team India for the T20I series against Australia. Ashwin is currently playing his last county game for Worcestershire and will be back in the country in a couple of days time.

Team India selectors are also expected to announce the squad for three T20Is in the first week of October, and then it will be clear whether Ashwin will be available for the first game or not,
“We are hopeful that he would play if he is available. He did play in the inaugural TNPL in 2016 immediately upon arriving from the West Indies tour. If he plays, then it will be a big boost for TN,” a TNCA official told TOI.
There are slight chances of selectors giving an opportunity to Ashwin as recently; they also dropped Ravindra Jadeja from the ODI side as soon as Axar Patel got fit. The duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chal have done well, and Axar has emerged as the third option in this department.
Going by this, Ashwin is currently not in the scheme of things and might play Ranji Trophy. In fact, there can be a case when Jadeja might also turn up for Saurashtra along with Cheteshwar Pujara.
Tamil Nadu side includes likes of Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik in their ranks, and the addition of Ashwin will be a big boost. The young pair of Baba brothers adds weight to the team. An all-rounder like Washington Sundar is none less than a bonus for the side.

TNCA is yet to announce the 15 member squad for the upcoming season, but they had already named a probable list, which included all these layers.
Tamil Nadu will face Andhra Pradesh in their opening encounter of the Ranji Trophy 2017/18.
