When R. Ashwin decided to try his venture in the county circuit, it evoked an extremely positive response from pundits back home in India. Fans were of the view that Ashwin set an example by himself volunteering to feature in the county arena in England, in a bid to add value to his skills as an off spinner. With India set to tour England next year for a series of 5 Tests, Ashwin’s experience could be precious.
Apart from Ashwin, there has been another member of that Indian Test side, plying his trade for a county. Cheteshwar Pujara has represented Nottinghamshire in quite a few games now and remains their number three in most of the games.
Recently, Ashwin’s Worcestershire clashed against Pujara’s Nottinghamshire, and we had a clear winner. The off spinner’s team comprehensively won the game by eight wickets, as Ashwin finally held the aces over Pujara in their Twitter battle.
Post the game, Ashwin tweeted a picture of him and Pujara, with a message written, “Thanks for the win @cheteshwar1 , lucky to have seen your back quickly on both the innings??.”

The game didn’t have too much for spinners as Ashwin remained wicket less throughout the match, barely bowling a few overs. Worcestershire gained a crucial lead of 50 in the first innings and daunting conditions, such a lead was always going to be incredibly decisive.
It turned out to be as thoughtful, as the eventual target of 226 was chased down quite quickly by Worcestershire in the end.
