India Under-19 Coach Rahul Dravid has hailed his wards for putting up the best show on the field to clinch the five-match of One-day series against England 3-1.
The fifth and final match of the 50-over format turned a tie after India were chasing the target of 227 at Wankhade Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
“It was really nice for them to get a game like this, we would have liked to have won but tie is the next best result in that sense,” veteran batsman Dravid said.
The 44-year-old Dravid expressed the ODI series win against England will instil confidence among the young players.
“It is fantastic. It is a priceless experience. I think these are kind of experiences, if they learn from this and if they go on from here, it is something that will hold them in good stead,” Dravid said.
The former Indian batsman has stated the team management felt happy after their all-round performance against visitors.
“There have been some really good performances without mentioning individual names, people have really stood up,” Dravid added.
Dravid has also highlighted the lower order’s batting performance before saying it was a good experience to nurse the young bunch of players.
“Even the lower order, the way they fought back from 137-7 we had made a lot of changes, a few new guys in as well,” Dravid remarked.
Backing on the batting performance, Shubman Gill who scored two hundred was the highest run-getter in the series. He scored 351 runs in four matches at the staggering average of 117.
“He is obviously a very good player and it was very good to see him get the two big hundreds, the hunger is what you want to see,” Dravid said on Shubman.
Dravid praised Shubman’s consistency as a batsman in the side while terming him a ‘terrific’ batsman at Under-19 level.
“I think Shubman was terrific, he had been getting starts in the first two games and we sort of challenged him a little bit to try and see if he could convert it,” Dravid further said.
The young prospect Prithvi Shaw, who failed to perform in first three games returned to score 105 off 89 balls in the fourth ODI.
“At the Under-19 level, you expect the guys to have a few odd games where you dont do well but he really played well in the last game there and got a really good hundred. He [Shaw] is a very good player,” Dravid Concluded.
