Former Team India skipper and a current coach of the Indian A and U-19 teams Rahul Dravid might soon get a new role in addition to his already assigned coaching stint. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants Rahul Dravid to take over the role of head coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) which is located in Bengaluru. Dravid who is one of the greatest ever cricketers to grace the game might be given the duty of monitoring and working with various coaches at the NCA.
The Committee of Administrators were given the proposal by Saba Karim who is the general manager cricket operations and NCA chief operating officer Tufan Ghosh. However, if the BCCI does give the role to Dravid and he accepts it, the board have to reconstruct his contract which at present cover only India A and U-19 jobs.
Ever since calling it quits, Dravid has decided to give back to the game by coaching the youngsters. He didn’t apply for the post of head coach of the senior team. Rather he wanted to train the young lo of players who ca go onto be stalwarts in the future. Players like Prithvi Shaw, Shubhman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari has been monitored closely by Dravid.
Players like Mayank Agarwal Hanuma Vihari have already cemented their place in the Indian Test squad. Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar who has taken giant strides in the last few months was also monitored very closely by Dravid.
“He has been the link between the Indian team and selectors. He has been guiding everyone behind the scenes. He is the one who has been informing selectors whether a particular player is ready for international cricket or not. We felt it’s the right time to have him on board for bigger role. The idea was proposed during the last COA meeting and it will be taken forward accordingly,” BCCI sources was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Meanwhile, the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to commence from today. Two heavyweight teams Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will contest in the opener of the cash-rich league. The presence of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in different teams will definitely give immense joy and pleasure to the spectators.
