Rahul Dravid Not To Tour With Indian Team To Sri Lanka

Rahul Dravid, the newly-appointed batting consultant of the Indian team for foreign Test tours, will not be travelling to Sri Lanka for the Test series.

This is due to his commitment to the India A side. The second string team is all set to South Africa for a Lits A and first-class series. Though Australia has backed out from the tri-series, it was already learned that BCCI will ask Cricket South Africa to convert tri-series into a bilateral series, so as the India A players do not suffer the effects of Australian players backing out from the tour. BCCI had earlier decided to reschedule the tour but it was Rahul Dravid who asked BCCI not to take this step. The list A series is yet to be re-scheduled whereas the first-class series will be played as per the plan,

“Dravid will obviously not travel with the team to Sri Lanka as he has to be with the ‘A’ side in South Africa and Zaheer Khan and Ravi Shastri will take charge during the upcoming tour. So, all these points need to be kept in mind while formulating Dravid’s contract,” a source in BCCI told TOI.

Surely, Dravid’s appointment in the role with the senior team is a bit strange as it has already been said that he will not be on the team bus all the time. Also, he will miss some future tours with Indian team as India tour of South Africa will clash with the Under 19 World Cup to be played next year, which automatically puts Dravid aside from participating in the Indian camp. Thus, it can be said hat his role in the team is not at all permanent and he will be only called in if the team needs his services, like on the tour of England next year. It is already to be noted that Dravid is not on the plane to England with the India Under 19 side which for England tour as he will go with the ‘A’ side to South Africa.
