Rahul Dravid was Impressed with my Performance in South Africa – Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal, one of the aspiring leg-spinners was just another player when he used to represent Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL.
His life took a turn when he was bought by the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and from there, within two years, he made it to the Indian team.

Chahal was taking the correct steps in domestic cricket and IPL was the boost which first brought him to the attention of selectors, who selected him for India A and then he made it to the India team for the tour to Zimbabwe in 2016.
Post that tour, he was dropped again but made a comeback for the T20I series against England. There he created history by bowling the best ever spell by an Indian bowler in T20I cricket when he scalped six wickets for just 25 runs.
After missing out on selection for Champions Trophy and Windies tour, he has again made a comeback in the Indian team for ODI and T20Is against Sri Lanka, riding on his decent show in South Africa with the India A side. Chahal was happy by the fact that he was able to impress the India A coach, Rahul Dravid, on the tour,
“Although Rahul Dravid was a batsman, he has enormous experience of playing all over the world. He was happy with my performances in South Africa. I had to make adjustments to my pace as the wickets were on the slower side. And it raised my confidence,” Chahal told Hindustan Times.
Further, the leggie praised the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who played key role in Chahal’s success by giving him a chance in IPL, which helped him to gain selectors attention,
“I have played under Virat Kohli Paaji for four IPL seasons. He is a great leader. He encouraged me so much when I took six wickets against England. I am excited to bowl on Sri Lankan wickets under him. He knows my strengths,” he added.

Chahal has a competition with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel for a place in the team. With R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja not the part of the squad, it is clear that he will get a game. However, he might have to wait for his chance, as Kuldeep is an automatic selection due to the surprise factor, whereas, Axar is an all-rounder, which might tempt Kohli to give him the priority.
The limited over series between India and Sri Lanka comprises of five ODIs and one T20I, which will kick off on August 20.
