Former India off-spinner and ex-India women’s team coach Ramesh Powar has become the head coach of the Gujarat senior team for the forthcoming domestic season, the Times of India has reported.

Ramesh Powar played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs for India from 2004-2007 and picked a total of 40 wickets. In domestic cricket, Powar played 148 FC games, picking 470 wickets with the best of 7/44. In 113 List-A games, he took 142 wickets and in 28 T20s, he picked 14 scalps.

He played in the Indian Premier League as well for teams like Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In March 2021, he coached Mumbai to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title.

Apparently, the Times of India report stated that the decision to appoint Powar was taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Gujarat Cricket Association, which includes former India wicketkeeper, Parthiv Patel.
