Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja is disappointed with his country’s defeat against England in the recently ended three-match Test series. Raja has always been vocal in keeping his opinion on Pakistan cricket. After the Green Amry’s defeat in England, he has raised the question on the selection of players. He expressed that the senior teammates should be replaced with the youngsters if Pakistan keeps losing.
Azhar Ali-led side had fought hard to level the series but the weather and at times, their performance didn’t support them. In the first Test, they were the predictable winners after giving a mammoth target but England’s batsman Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes’s miraculous partnership stunned the visitors. Eventually, Pakistan lost the first Test by three wickets.
In the second Test at Southampton, Rain and bad light marred the match and it ended in the draw. Similarly, the last Test also ended in a draw although Azhar amassed a blistering century. However, the match results of the last two Test matches don’t justify how competitive the series was.
But Ramiz Riaz is angry with Pakistan’s performance and questioned senior player’s role. Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan skipper opined that the team management needs to take some ruthless decision and bring new players. According to him, if senior players are failing to lead the team to victory, they should be replaced.
“There are problems in the Pakistan camp, not just of late but from a while now as far as away tours are concerned. This year we lost to South Africa, Australia and now England. We compete in the first Test but progressively our form tapers off as the series progresses,” Ramiz Raja said.
“What is the role of senior players? Will they keep on failing and will we still keep playing them? Why are we hesitant to bring in new players, especially batsmen? Decision making has to be strong. Experimentation and ruthless wrong decision is the only way up,” he added.
James Anderson is a great Test player: Ramiz Raja
Further, Ramiz Raja heaped praise on England cricketer James Anderson who became the first fast bowler to complete 600 Test wickets. He said that the veteran’s performance was like successfully climbing Mount Everest.
“James Anderson got his 600th wicket by dismissing Azhar Ali and became the first fast bowler to reach 600 Test wickets. His performance is like someone who has successfully climbed Mount Everest. James Anderson gave respect to Test cricket and thus he got respect in return. He wanted to become a great Test player and so he became.”he added
After playing the Test series, England and Pakistan will play three-match T20I series starting from 28th August.
