Rangana Herath will once again return to the captaincy role as the veteran Sri Lankan bowler will lead the Test squad for the two Test match series against Bangladesh. Herath had earlier led the Test squad in the two Test match series against Zimbabwe as well after an injury to the regular captain Angelo Matthews.
Once again, the regular skipper is injured and will not be able to take part in the Test series, hence, Herath has been appointed to lead the Sri Lankan squad,
“He (Herath) has taken on the challenge of leading the team through the two-Test series against the Bangladeshi team.”
Though selectors are yet to announce the 15-member squad for the series, but the Board have revealed that Malina Pushpakumara will be part of the squad,
“Slow left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara has been included in the Test squad. Pushpakumara first represented the Sri Lanka A team in 2012 when he faced South Africa and Zimbabwe during a triangular tournament and made an appearance for the Sri Lanka A team in 2015 against Pakistan.”
The Tests series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh start from March 7 with the first Test to be played at Galle. The second and the last Test match will be played in Colombo followed by three-match ODI and two T20I series.
Bangladesh has already announced the squad for the series with Mustafizur Rahman making a comeback to the Test squad.
