Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath has returned to the top 10 of the ICC bowler’s ranking after helping his team defeat Australia in the first Test by 106 runs.It was only the second Test victory for Sri Lanka over Australia, the previous one came in September 1999. The left-arm spinner, who took 9 wickets in the match has grabbed the ninth position in the list. Herath is now the fourth spinners in the top ten list after Ravichandran Ashwin(1), Yasir Shah(5) and Ravindra Jadeja(6).
Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has jumped one place to take the sixth spot while his compatriot Steve O’Keefe has climbed six places to take the 65th position.
New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner has achieved a career-best 13th rank after his superb figures of six for 41 in the first innings and two for 62 in the second innings against Zimbabwe.
Sri Lankan youngster Kusal Mendis, who played a matchwinning knock of 176 against the Aussies, has jumped a massive 27 places to reach his career-best ranking of 21 in the batsmen’s list. Mendis’s is now the second highest-ranked Sri Lanka batsman behind his skipper Angelo Mathews, who dropped two places and is now at 12th.
Australian skipper Steve Smith, who scored 30 and 55 in the match, is heading the batsmen’s list. However, his 24-point gap with English star Joe Root is now reduced to 20 points. With both the batsmen in action in the coming week, the list can witness a few changes.
Meanwhile, veteran Australian batsman, Adam Voges has made it to the top five of the batsmen’s list for the first time in his career. The right-handed batsman scored 47 and 12, and now trails South Africa’s fourth-ranked Hashim Amla by 40 points.
After scoring only 0 and 1, Australian opener David Warner has fallen down three places and is now joint 10th with Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. Ajinkya Rahane at 15th is the next highest ranked Indian batsman in the list.
