Ranji Trophy 2017-18: Chinta Gaja Shines for Gujarat, Gautam Gambhir Fails with Bat for Delhi
In the Group B fixture, Rajasthan was skittled out for 153 in 50 overs as 23-year-old fast bowler Chinta Gaja was the chief architect with the ball, who bagged eight wickets after sending down 15 overs in which he conceded 40 runs and bowled seven maidens in his devastating spell.
For Rajasthan, Tajinder Singh was the top scorer with 45 off 54 balls. At stumps, Gujarat was 90 for one 37.5 overs while trailing by 63 runs.
In the group A fixture, Delhi batsman and discarded India top-order batsman – Gambhir – was dismissed on one after facing nine balls. Delhi posted 260 for four on the first day of the fifth round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season which is the premium four-day competition in the country.
Group A –
At Delhi, the host side led by Ishant Sharma posted 260 for four in 62 overs.
For Maharashtra, legspinner Chirag Khurana was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets in 21 overs.
For Delhi, Nitish Rana smashed a century and is batting on 110 off 157 balls which further saw him smashing 12 boundaries and three fifties.
In Kanpur, Karnataka posted 327 for three in 90 overs against Uttar Pradesh as Dega Nischal is batting on 90 off 221 alongside Manish Pandey, who is unbeaten on 63 off 79 balls.
Hyderabad finished the day one on 289 for eight in 84 overs, as Arup Das and Rahul Singh claimed three wickets each for Assam.
Group B —
Gujarat posted 90 for one in 37.5 overs after Rajasthan was bundled out for 153.
Haryana was 119 for seven in 45 overs, as Mohammed Mudhasir claimed four wickets which further saw his bowling partner Ram Daya bagged three wickets in 18 overs.
Kerala was bundled out for 225 in 78 overs, as Saurashtra finished day one with 37 for one in 10 overs. The visitors are trailing by 188 runs.
Group C —
At stumps on day one, Baroda was 281 for three in 90 overs.
Mumbai posted 248 for six in 90 overs.
At stumps on day one of the Ranji Trophy, Madhya Pradesh was 224 for seven in 80 overs.
Group D –
Punjab was bundled out at the paltry score of 145 in 46 overs. Pradipta Pramanik and Boddupalli Ami claimed three wickets each for Bengal. The visitors are trailing by 71 runs after posting 71 for no loss in 21 overs.
Goa was able to post 239 in 93.4 overs on day one against Vidarbha. Off-spinner Akshay Wakhare was the pick of the bowlers, who bagged four wickets in 25 overs while giving away 50 runs.
Chhattisgarh was bundled out in 72.2 overs on 130, as Diwesh Pathania claimed four wickets in 23.2 overs. In response, Services posted 39 for no loss in 12 overs. Services are trailing by 91, as their openers will resume the play on the second day of the fifth round.
