The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is hopeful regarding the release of Indian batsman Rohit Sharma for their next tie against Tripura at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, a report in The Indian Express suggests.
Rohit is a part of the Indian team for the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, but it is still not clear whether he will part of the playing XI in the Nagpur Test or not.
Currently, there are only slight chances that Rohit would get a go and Mumbai Cricket Association has shown a desire to gain Rohit’s services if he doesn’t play the second Test of the series.
It is to be noted that Ishant Sharma, who was not part of playing XI in the first Test, was released from the squad on day one for the Ranji duty. He led Delhi team to a victory over Maharashtra and Delhi gained a lot from his presence.
The report also adds that Rohit was also in contention to get released but couldn’t make it up due to poor flight connectivity. This time when Mumbai are playing at their home ground, Rohit can easily fly to the state to take part in the game, starting on November 25, a day after the second Test begins in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, Mumbai selectors have taken a tough call, as they have dropped all-rounder Abhishek Nayar from the squad for his dry run in the tournament till now. The 41-time champion will continue to get the services of opener Prithvi Shaw, who has been allowed to play Ranji Trophy instead of U-19 Challenger Trophy.
It is a must-win the game for Mumbai, as a loss would mean they will fail to reach the next round while a first innings lead will leave this team hung in the balance and their future will get decided after the results of other games in the group.
