Prithvi Shaw – Mumbai opener – could miss the quarter-final clash of the Ranji Trophy 2017/18. As per the reports, Shaw will be joining the India U-19 camp to be held before the junior World Cup to be played next year.

Shaw was to skip the last league stage of Ranji Trophy for Mumbai as well, but the selectors decided to release Shaw from U19 Challenger squad so, as he could play Ranji Trophy. Along with Shaw, Shubham Gill was also released by the team management, and he played an innings of 129 and 32 for Punjab in their last game of the season.

Mumbai is set to face star-studded Karnataka in the quarter-final of the tournament and Shaw’s absence will be the last thing they would ask for. As of now, Shaw will be joining the India U19 camp, and Mumbai would be hoping for the release of Shaw like he got released from U19 Challenger Trophy.

However, Shaw still is part of the U19 tournament, as he joined the India Red side the very next day after the game between Mumbai and Tripura that ended on day three and he played an innings of 63 in his first game.

The unavailability of Shaw might open up the doors for Akhil Herwadkar, who last played against Odisha in Bhubaneshwar. He might open the innings with Jay Bista, who had replaced him in the side.

Mumbai will face Karnataka in the fourth quarterfinal in Nagpur, which will be the only televised contest. In other games, Gujarat will face Bengal in Jaipur, Delhi will face Madhya Pradesh in Vijayawada while Kerala will face Vidarbha in Surat.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will also be not available for Mumbai’s quarterfinal game. He has been appointed as the captain of the India ODI side for Sri Lanka series in absence of Virat Kohli, who has been rested.
