Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Suresh Raina Continues His Poor Form, Dismissed On Duck Against Karnataka
Suresh Raina, the skipper of UP Ranji team, continued his torrid form in the ongoing Ranji season as he was dismissed on a duck on the third delivery he faced on the third day of the game against Karnataka.
His continued failures are further jeopardising his chances of making a comeback in the Indian team.
Uttar Pradesh had lost its first wicket on a score of 106 after openers Umang Sharma, and Shivam Chaudhary had put up a solid start. Raina promoted himself and decided to come in at three. However, Ronit More trapped him in front of the stumps and marked an end to his innings.
Raina has just been able to score 105 runs in four games till now, and this duck meant that he did not add a run to his total. His wicket has left UP in sorts of trouble as Karnataka had put a total of 655 runs in 186.1 overs and the team needed Raina to play big innings.
Though UP is out of contention for the next round, the remaining games are a chance for this team to salvage some pride but this might not be the case, as it looks.
Karnataka bowlers will now look to take quick wickets to first ensure the first innings lead and then aim for full seven points from the game, which includes the bonus point.
It was a double century from Manish Pandey that ensured such a mammoth total for Karnataka. He played an innings of 238 off just 301 to lead his team from the front. He was well supported by Dega Nischal, who played an inning of 195 in his just second first-class game. Opener Mayank Agarwal too continued his good run but missed a century as he was dismissed on a score of 90.
For Uttar Pradesh, Imtiaz Ahmed scalped six wickets while Dhruv Pratap Singh snared a three-for. Part-timer Akshadeep Nath took the one remaining wicket.
