Last year as well, Bhajji got announced as the skipper of the side, but the off-spinner did not play even a single game. In his absence, Yuvraj led the team in the Ranji season. This year as well, if Harbhajan decides to skip the four-day games, then Yuvraj will take over the captaincy duties.
The upcoming season is a crucial one for the all-rounder, as he was a member of Indian team till a few months back but got dropped from the team in the name of rest. The ‘rested’ Yuvraj Singh will be keen to force selectors to call him back in the team, and the only way to force selectors is by performing well in domestic cricket.
Harbhajan may be out of national call-up completely, the gates are still open for Yuvraj, due to lack of experience in team India’s middle order, that has been created after his departure from the team.

Meanwhile, though the selectors are yet to announce the squad for the upcoming season, Punjab have already started the training camp for the upcoming season, under the tutelage of new Head Coach Ajay Ratra. He arrived in Punjab on Thursday and had a meeting with officials, before taking over his duty. Straightaway, the members of the team went for a net session, with Yuvraj being the star attraction.
Players like Manan Vohra, Jiwanjot Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Gurkeerat Singh Mann are an automatic selection in the Ranji side. It will be interesting to see whether youngsters like Shubham Gill and Abhishek Sharma get a call-up for Ranji Trophy.
