Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Haven’t Established Any Contact with Pragyan Ojha for Sometime Now – Manoj Tiwary
Since the day Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) have denied Pragyan Oha an NOC to move back to Hyderabad, the left-arm spinner is yet to contact an official of the board, which saw him not getting considered for the first two Ranji Trophy matches of the season.
As per reports, Ojha is much disappointed with the turn of the events, as he was hopeful of CAB allowing him to go back to Hyderabad but in the end, Sourav Ganguly said in public that they would not release Ojha, as he joined the team when Hyderabad was at the plate level.
These words confirmed that Ojha would not be getting a releasing letter and he will get forced to play for Bengal, even if he does not desire for it.
Ojha desired to go other way, and he has ruled out a communication with the authority as of now.
There is also fear that he might also miss the season due to the same and amidst all this, Manoj Tiwary, the Bengal captain has said he doesn’t know where Ojha is,
“Look, I have not had any contact with Pragyan Ojha for quote some time now. I have no updates on what he is up to. Also selection matters are not my domain. I have a bigger job in hand, to ensure that Bengal does well this time,” Tiwary told PTI.
“You are asking the question to a wrong person. I am not a decision making authority. Moreover, I have the responsibility of running the team smoothly and my concern cannot be about any particular individual. There are two sides to a story and I don’t know any of the sides. So it will be very unfair on my part to make any comments,” he added.
Ojha, who last played a Test match in 2013, was invited by Ganguly to play for the state after BCCI banned him for an illegal action in 2014. Ojha had a great first season, but in the second year, he could just manage ten wickets in six games. Later, he was involved in a war of words with Ashok Dinda, who called him an outsider. The matter got cleared later but the damage was was done.
After the end of the season, the Hyderabad Cricket Association was keen to get back its players from different states. Ambati Rayudu had already submitted his NOC and got appointed as the captain of the state straightaway, but a failure from Ojha to submit NOC saw him at being considered for a place in the team.
Still, the gates are open for Ojha in the Hyderabad side as if he can get his NOC mid-way the season; also he can be added to the Hyderabad squad. But as said, he needs an NOC soon to play the domestic season for Hyderabad. Or else, Ojha might turn for the net session soon and join Bengal squad only.
