He was drafted in the playing XI only after Mayank Agarwal failed to perform and Tripathi grabbed his chance with both hands, making most out of the opportunity.
He got rewarded with a place in the Board President’s XI squad to face Australia by team India selectors and this time; the state has awarded him the captaincy of Maharashtra Ranji team.
Last year, it was Kedar Jadhav and Swapnil Gugale who shared captaincy among themselves, but this time, Gugale has not been made captain, despite being named in the team. He shared a record partnership of 594 for the third wicket in the previous season with Ankit Bawne against Delhi. Rishab Pant led Delhi’s reply with a triple century, but Maharashtra was able to gain a lead of 45 runs in a high-scoring encounter.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is all set to miss the services of Kedar Jadhav for a large part of the season due to his commitment to the Indian team. Along with that, Bawne will also be absent for their first contest, by being selected for India A for the series against New Zealand A.
