Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Ravindra Jadeja Smashes Century in his Return Match for Saurashtra

The highest ranked Indian bowler in the latest ICC Test Rankings, Ravindra Jadeja, is cashing on the opportunities he is getting during a break from the national side.

The southpaw scored a brilliant century against Jammu and Kashmir in a Ranji Trophy match in Rajkot on Saturday. The hard-hitting left-hander made himself available for the clash after missing Saurashtra’s opening encounter against Haryana due to a family marriage.

Another India International Cheteshwar Pujara who is the captain of Saurashtra won the toss and opted to bat first. The home team were jolted early with the wickets of Kishan Parmar and Cheteshwar Pujara, as Saurashtra was reduced to 59/2 in the 16th over. While Mohammed Mudhasir bagged the wicket of Kishan Parmar, off-spinner Parvez Rasool got the prized wicket of Pujara.

Robin Uthappa who is playing his first Ranji Trophy season for Saurashtra looked in a good touch and struck some delightful shots during his innings of 37 of 55 balls which included seven fours and a huge six. With Saurashtra reeling at 59/3, it was Ravindra Jadeja who joined Sheldon Jackson in the middle to resurrect the innings.

The duo slowly started building a solid partnership and was not perturbed by the good deliveries bowled by the Jammu and Kashmir bowlers. They started gaining in confidence and played some delightful shots in the process. Sheldon Jackson was at his murderous best, as the hard-hitting right-hander kept smashing the J&K bowlers all around the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Jackson smashed as many as 22 fours and seven sixes during his whirlwind knock of 181 of a mere 156 deliveries before falling to Waseem Raza. Jadeja, on the other hand, was playing the 2nd fiddle, but he too looked in good touch and struck some beautiful shots in the process. The southpaw was exceptional square of the wicket and also drove and pulled to perfection.

The left-hander smashed 18 fours and a couple of gigantic sixes en route to his unbeaten knock of 150 runs on day one.
