Rishab Pant will miss the opening encounter of the Ranji Trophy 20217/8 due to commitments with India A. Though he is not in the India A team for the first three games of List A series against New Zealand A, it looks like he is spending time at NCA, practising for the series.

India A and New Zealand A will be playing a five-match unofficial ODI series in Visakhapatnam from October 6 to 15. While Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the captain of the team for first three games, Pant will lead the team in two closing encounters. He is also included in the Board President’s XI squad for two practice games against New Zealand. Hence, he will miss the initial phase of the season for Delhi.

In Rishab’s absence, Anuj Rawat will perform the wicketkeeping duties and will also be making his first class-debut against Assam tomorrow (October 6). Rawat has done well for Delhi U19 and made it to the NCA camp of Under19 players early this year.
Delhi have a new captain this time in the form of Ishant Sharma. As of now, he has been given the duties to lead the team for first two games, but he might stay as the leader for long because Ishant will be available for first four league phase games as he is not in contention to be selected in the ODI team.
Milind Kumar, the vice-captain of Delhi, will take over the charge if Ishant is selected for the series against Sri Lanka starting November 16.
The success, if any, of Delhi, depends on likes of Gautam Gambhir, Unmukt Chand, Nitish Rana, Navdeep Saini, Manan Sharma and skipper Ishant Sharma himself.
