Ranji Trophy 2017/18: S Sreesanth Hopeful to Make a Return to Competitive Cricket

S Sreesanth, who got cleared by the Kerala High Court of any charges against him, is now eyeing the ongoing Ranji season for a comeback to the competitive cricket. It is to be noted that he would have been playing for Kerala right from the first game had BCCI not challenged the decision in High Court and issued him the permission to play.

The hearing regarding the decision will soon be taking place in next few days, and the right-arm pacer is optimistic that the decision will come in his favour and he would soon be playing Ranji Trophy,

“The hearing will take place in the coming days and I am optimistic about getting the decision in my favour. Once I receive the necessary clearance to play again, I would want to be in the best possible shape to bowl. Thanks to Ramji sir and his team at QLP (Quantum Leap Performance) for guiding me and also to SRMC (Sri Ramachandra Medical College) for offering me the facilities to train. I am targeting the fourth Ranji game for Kerala. They have just won their first match and that’s a good sign. If they make the quarters and go further, it will be great. I would love to be part of a Ranji Trophy-winning Kerala side,” he told TOI during an interaction.

Despite all what had transpired in his life since 2013, Sreesanth is still hoping to make a comeback to the international cricket, as he cites the example of Leander Paes and Narain Karthikeyan, who are still active in their fields even after crossing the age of 40,

“If Leander Paes can be playing in Grand Slams at 44 and Narain Karthikeyan race at 40 and be so successful at it, I see no reason why I can’t play at 34. They are my motivation as they have set targets and standards for people like us to achieve. If I make the Indian team, it will be a great comeback,” he added.

The matter regarding Sreesanth is to get heard in few days time, and as Sreesanth said, he is expecting the court to announce the decision in his favour, but again, the board might delay his comeback by challenging the decision in Supreme Court. Though various courts have dropped the charges against the fast bowler, BCCI is still not ready to accept the plea from him.

Sreesanth was also disappointed by this BCCI’s decision, and also vented his displeasure towards the decision on twitter a couple of months back.

The decision of the court will tell whether he would be making a comeback to the competitive cricket or not, and if the decision goes against BCCI, then they would always have a chance of challenging the decision in the Supreme Court, thus delaying Sreesanth’s comeback.
