The money trail was pointed out to Budumuru. We nabbed him from his native place — Yavaripetta in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh earlier this week.”

Budumuru represented Andhra Pradesh in Ranji Trophy between 2014 and 2016. Nagaraju has featured for his state team for the South Zone and the Central Zone in the past. After the decline in his cricketing career, he wanted to have the same luxurious life he had grown used to and started to con people by duping his identity

“When he stopped doing well on the field after 2018, he started missing the luxurious lifestyle that he had become used to. That was his primary motive behind conning people under various pretexts,” said an official from the cyber police.

Kulkarni, who coached Mumbai to the Ranji title in the 2012-13 season. He has also coached Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh teams and will look to take Tamil Nadu to the long-awaited Ranji Trophy title. Tamil Nadu had a poor season in the 2022 domestic season failing to qualify for the knockouts in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy.

With Tamil Nadu’s top performers, Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund, and Dinesh Karthik not playing the longer formats proved too costly for them to fail continuously in the Ranji Trophy. Tamil Nadu is looking to build a team around the youngsters like Baba Indrajith, Sai Kishore, and Pradosh Ranjan Paul.
