Ranji Trophy Finals: Spirited Tamil Nadu take on Favourites Karnataka
Karnataka has been in brilliant form off late and they have managed to qualify for the final of the Ranji Trophy for the second time on a trot and they will be facing Tamil Nadu in the final of Ranji Trophy to be held at the Wankhede Stadium from Sunday i.e. the 8th of March, 2015.
It is quite much expected to be a thrilling encounter with both the teams quite balanced. And also both the teams possess the likes of some players who have played decent amount of international Cricket. The captain of the Tamil Nadu side, Abhinav Mukund said that Karnataka has been a consistent side for the past couple of years. But he even mentioned that Tamil Nadu team does possess a good bunch of talented youngsters. So it will be a good game as a whole.
Karnataka won their seventh Ranji title in the previous year. Their first came in the year 1973-74 while on the other hand, Tamil Nadu managed to win only two Ranji trophies so far and the last time they won the trophy was way back in 1987-88. So, Tamil Nadu must be desperate for a win this year. The defending champions, Karnataka has been undefeated for two years now. And notably, they will start as favourites in the match as they have defeated Tamil Nadu by a margin of 285 runs in the opening game of the season.
And also as a matter of fact, that was Tamil Nadu’s only defeat in this season. The batsmen of Karnataka has being among runs with Robin Uthappa being the leading run scorer of the season with 912 runs by his name in this season. Also players in the likes of Shreyas Gopal, Lokesh Rahul have over 600 runs each in this season. However there is a worry for the Karnataka side regarding the availability of CM Gautam for the match. He is suffering from a muscle pull and is uncertain for the match.
The skipper of the Karnataka team, R Vinay Kumar stated that if Gautam is not cent percent fit, then they would not take the risk of playing him. Karnataka also possess a strong bowling line up with pacers like Vinay Kumar and Abhimanyu Mithun leading the pace spearhead for the team.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu is no lack of talent. They possess the depth in the batting line up in the likes of Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund, Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar and others. The skipper, Mukund is the leading run scorer for his side with 810 runs. He is followed by Dinesh Karthik with 753 runs and Baba Indrajith comes third with 668 runs.
Offie Malolan Rangarajan and left-arm spinner Rahil Shah are the leading wicket takers for Tamil Nadu with 33 and 27 wickets, respectively. Tamil Nadu previously played a Ranji final in the 2011-12 season where they were defeated by Rajasthan. Both captains are hopeful of winning the match and it will surely be a thrilling encounter.
