The fifth round of the 83rd edition of Ranji Trophy started today. On day 1, a total of 3 matches were scuppered due to nature’s call whereas in three of the matches the team bowling first was able to bowl out their opposition on day 1. Here is how all the teams fared on Day 1 pf Ranji Trophy 2016/17 –

Group A

The amount of smog, smoke, and pollution in Delhi can be adjudged by the fact that the first day of the Ranji Trophy game between Bengal and Gujarat was abandoned. No play was possible on the first day citing smoke and fog issues. Players present in the ground also complained about breathing problems in this condition, hence, the first day of the game was called off. Same was the case with Hyderabad and Tripura at Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi.

Group B

The former captain of India Under-19, Ishan Kishan, drew the main attention on the first day of the fifth round of Ranji Trophy 2016/17. Coming in at a difficult time when Jharkhand was 80/4, Ishan Kishan along with Ishank Jaggi and Kaushal Singh stitched few crucial partnerships standing tall against a polished bowling performance from Delhi. Jharkhand was at a score of 359/6 at the time of stumps.

Group C

The former Under 19 spinner Mayank Dagar came up with a brilliant bowling spell for Himachal Pradesh.  Bowling against an experienced batting line-up of Jammu & Kashmir, Dagar grabbed a bunch of 4 wickets toppling the J&K batting line-up and forcing them to surrender at a score of just 162. In reply, Himachal Pradesh were 2 down with a score of 58.
