Ranji Trophy Round Up: Devendra Bundela Creates History, Shikhar Dhawan Falls Cheaply

Madhya Pradesh skipper Devendra Bundela created history on Tuesday as the veteran domestic batsman made his 137th Ranji trophy appearance, getting past Amol Muzumdar’s record, who had 136 Ranji games under his belt. Bundela marked the occasion with a score of 86. It was a run-out which ended his innings. Despite his great efforts on a historical day, Madhya Pradesh were rattled on a score of 217.

Bengal 99 (Sudip Chatterjee 35; Shardul Thakur 6-31) trail by 65 runs vs Mumbai 164/5 (Kaustubh Pawar 78; Amit Kuila 2-44, Mukesh Kumar 2-44) at Nagpur.

Uttar Pradesh 259 (Suresh Raina 91; Karn Sharma 4-48, Anureet Singh 4-67) lead by 241 runs vs Railways 18/1 at Rajkot. 

Gujarat 281/2 (Priyank Panchal 134*; Sandeep Sharma 1-57) vs Punjab at Belagavi.

Group B

Led by all-rounder Sumit Narwal, Delhi bundled out Vidarbha for just 183. Delhi had an upper hand throughout the day but late evening blow was enough for Vidarbha to grab honors as they scalped a crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan for just six, which further blurred his chances of making a comeback to the Indian team. Looking at the nature of the pitch, it can be said the Delhi batsmen will face similar difficulties which were faced by Vidarbha batsmen.

Group C

The day of saw Himachal Pradesh bowlers toiling all day with just three wickets in their kitty. Haryana scored 237 runs for the loss of three wickets. Currently, Guntashveer Singh is batting on a score of 110* and their batsman will look to score a big one on Day 2.
