One of India’s most promising fast bowlers Shardul Thakur has been rested for Mumbai’s quarterfinal clash against Karnataka scheduled to begin from December 7th. Shardul was picked in the Indian squad for the limited over series against New Zealand but did not get an opportunity to play. He was then dropped from limited over the squad to play against Sri Lanka and was replaced by Siddharth Kaul who earned his maiden Indian call-up.

Shardul missed the last match for Mumbai against Tripura at the Wankhede stadium which the hosts won by ten wickets due to a shoulder injury. He has now been advised to rest for the same injury and might return to the squad in the semi-final if the 41-time champion’s win the match. Along with Thakur, Shreyas Iyer who has been picked for the limited over side against Sri Lanka has also been dropped from the side.

The squad will be led by right-handed batsman Aditya Tare which also includes in-form opening batsman Prithvi Shaw and Jay Bista.  An official from the MCA said that Thakur has been advised rest and hence was not considered for selection. Akhil Herwadkar, Siddesh Lad, Surya Kumar Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, medium pacer Akash Parkar and left-arm spinner Karsh Kothari have all been named in the squad.

Mumbai will face Karnataka in Nagpur in the quarter-final stage from 7th December.
