The Story

Cricket fans in India are all set to re-live the country’s greatest sporting moment – the 1983 Cricket World Cup Triumph – on the big screen soon, as the Phantom Film, led by director Kabir Khan, is all set to produce a biopic on the subject.

The team is ensuring a high level of attention to details to keep the end product historically accurate. One such effort was an interview with PR Singh Mann, the team manager of the 1983 World Cup squad. Kabir Khan personally discussed various untold anecdotes about the journey.

As of now, the scripting work has already reached its final stages and production has now moved onto the next level – casting, and the latest development in the process is pretty exciting.

Ranveer Singh to ‘Haryana Hurricane’

Ranveer Singh has been quietly preparing to enact the Kapil Dev in reel life. The lively actor looked like the natural selection for the role according to director Kabir Khan and Vikramaditya Motwane – the two top brains behind the production of the movie.

Vishnu Vardhan Induri who is co-producing this incredible journey of Team India is excited to have both Kabir and Ranveer on the board.

“With his energy and passion, we feel that Ranveer is a perfect fit to play Kapil Dev, one of the greatest sporting legends India has ever produced,” he exults.

Vikramaditya Motwane of Phantom Films seconds him saying it’s not easy taking on the mantle of Kapil Dev.

“If any actor can do it, it’s Ranveer,” he asserts.

Ranveer, known or his versatility, will play a sports personality for the first time in his career.

Director Kabir Khan highly excited

Director Kabir Khan, on the other hand, seems highly excited with the opportunity of creating a movie out of his greatest childhood sporting memory.

“I had no idea then that from that day on cricket in India would change forever. As a filmmaker, the journey to that win, filled with the raw energy and sheer passion of a young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. It’s great to have Ranveer come on board as Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else in the role since I started working on the script,” says Kabir.
