Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif, who boldly keeps his views on his YouTube Channel, recalled the story when  Tanvir Ahmed, former pacer, introduced MS Dhoni to him.

The incident which Rashid Latif has narrated, in the recent interaction, seems to be after MS Dhoni’s scored his maiden ODI century against Pakistan in 2004. Against the likes of Shahid Afridi and other lethal pacers, the young Dhoni played huge shots like an experienced player. He scored 148 off 123 balls, striking 15 boundaries and four maximums, against the Green Army in the second ODI match of the six-match series in 2004.

In his YouTube channel, Latif narrated that former fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed introduced Dhoni saying ‘a player has come who will make people forget about Sachin Tendulkar’. Then, the veteran had not believed Tanvir’s word but he now agrees with his countryman’s statement.

“I remember I spoke to Tanvir Ahmed who had gone to the tour to Kenya in 2004. I was in England at the time. I spoke to him on phone,” Latif recalled in the latest episode of his YouTube show ‘Caught Behind’.

“Tanvir told me that Rashid bhai, a player has come who will make people forget about Sachin Tendulkar. I said ‘that is not possible. Sachin is Sachin, how can you get a player like this’. But Dhoni came quite close to Sachin in his career in terms of brand value,” Latif said.

MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket is hard to be matched. Probably, India would never find a captain cool, an astute wicketkeeper and the best finisher like Dhoni again. The World Cup winner retired from the international cricket on 15th August.

Through an Instagram post, MS Dhoni informed his fans about his decision which broke the heart of Indians. Dhoni has led India to three ICC tournament victories- World Cup 2011, T20 World Cup 2007 and Champions Trophy 2013.
