Few Indian players will be looking over their shoulders now that Team India’s new director Ravi Shastri, besides motivating the players and instilling discipline in them, is tasked with preparing a detailed report of on players, based on which Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will decide the fate of individuals.
After suffering the humiliation in the Test series, the BCCI ropped in former Test cricketer Shastri as Indian team director – a first of its kind in Indian cricket. Besides that BCCI has also sacked bowling coach Joe Dawes and fielding coach Trevor Penny and instead appointed Sanjay Bangar, B Arun and R Sridhar respectively as the new support staff of Duncan Fletcher.
A BCCI official claimed: “Shastri’s report will be key, because he will be submitting everything in detail. From Duncan Fletcher’s role to MS Dhoni’s captaincy. What is the mood in the team and what more can be done to get better results. We are hoping for an honest view from Shastri and you can say the future of a few individuals will depend on Shastri’s report.”
