Ravi Shastri And Other Coaches’ Contract Extended Till West Indies Tour: Report
Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and his coaching staff are all set to keep its job till the tour of West Indies as COA has decided to retain the coaching staff for the series that will be played after the World Cup 2019, a report in Mumbai Mirror suggests.
As per the report, the board will follow the same procedure that they followed while appointing Shastri.
This will see the board putting an advertisement for the job and then former players applying for it.
It will take its time and also, team India might be distracted if BCCI decides to do it during the World Cup.
Hence, this can be one of the reasons behind Shastri and co being given the extension.
The coach-appointment process will only start after the World Cup and hence, Shastri will keep his job by then.
He, along with Sanjay Bangar and Bharat Arun, will be given a direct entry into the race.
Shastri and Bharat Arun were not a part of the coaching set-up when Anil Kumble was the head coach.
Bangar has been part of the backroom staff right from 2014 and also performed the role of head coach on the tour of Zimbabwe in 2016.
The future of Shastri and his coaching staff will highly be impacted by team India’s performance at the World Cup.
Should India win the World Cup, the complete coaching staff might be rewarded and might be given a a long extension while the opposite can be the case if the team does not do well.
The performance of Men in Blue will have a big impact on the coaching staff.
Also, it is a known fact that Indian skipper Virat Kohli shares a good rapport with Shastri.
His opinion will also have a say in it and Shastri will go in as a strong candidate whenever the process will take place.
For now, the coaching staff is on rest as none of the coaches is allowed to be part of IPL.
All the coaches will be following IPL closely to keep a check on players’ fitness.
Recently, Shastri had talked about it and had said that he will be following each and every game closely.
IPL 2019 starts on March 23 and will end on May 12. 10 days later, team India will fly to England on May 22 for World Cup.
