The background:
Ravi Shastri applying for the Team India’s head coach has raised a lot of eyebrows. The BCCI had advertised for the post last month but decided to invite more applications after Anil Kumble’s unexpected resignation.
Virat Kohli & Co. had enjoyed a very fruitful time under Kumble which saw them reaching the pinnacle of the ICC Test rankings, after winning series against West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia at home. Under Kumble, the team also registered limited-over series win over New Zealand and England in addition to the runners-up finish in the just-concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
However, Kumble decided to resign after being informed of the players especially skipper Virat Kohli not happy with his style of functioning. And now that Ravi Shastri has applied for the job, many feel that it was done on the insistence of Kohli. The 28-year old batsman shares a good relationship with the former team director and it seems like he is willing to see the former India player to replace Kumble.

The story:
Ever since Kumble has stepped down, debate of how a coach should manage the players has been doing the round. While Kumble failed to impress the players despite the successful tenure, Shastri seems to be a very popular figure among the Indian players. And Shikhar Dhawan has now proved it to some extent by claiming that Shastri has ‘a different aura than that of Kumble.
“Yes, of course, everybody has a different character. Now if you consider Dhoni bhai and Virat, they are absolutely two different characters. Both play well and have helped India win a match on quite a few occasions. So, everyone comes with their own character. Ravi (Shastri) bhai has a different aura than that of Anil bhai and so everyone has their own individuality,” Dhawan told ANI.

“They both are great players and have achieved enough for the Team, thus I always have respect for them,” Dhawan added.
