The newly formed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members are set to take the interview for the head coach post of the Indian national cricket team on Friday (16th August). However, ahead of this interview, the top media reports are claiming that Ravi Shastri has a great chance to retain his head coach post.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the six names of the shortlisted candidates for the upcoming interview. Apart from the present head coach Ravi Shastri, Tom Moody, Robin Singh, Lalchand Rajput, Mike Hesson and Phil Simmons are the other candidates to participate for the head coach post.

India have great records under the coaching of Ravi Shastri

Under his coaching, India have won 13 out of the 21 Tests as his success rate is 52.38%. During this term, India won their maiden Test series on the Australian soil early this year.

Meanwhile, during his tenure, India have achieved better success in the limited-overs format. Under his coaching, the national team has claimed best records in ODIs while their T20I records are just below from ODI. During Shastri’s coaching period, India’s ODI success rate is 71.67%, while the T20I success rate is 69.44%. At this time, India have won 43 out of 60 ODIs and 25 out of 36 T20Is.

Recently, Ravi Shastri’s Indian team featured in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. India performed very well in this tournament as they dominated in the round-robin stage. At the end of the round-robin stage, India finished as the table topper as they earned 15 points. In that stage, India won seven games, lost once, and one had no result.

However, India lost the rain-interrupted semi-final of that tournament against the fourth-placed side New Zealand.

After that Cricket World Cup, the BCCI has extended Shastri’s coaching contract for 45 days – till the end of the ongoing Caribbean tour. Ahead of this tour, the Indian captain Virat Kohli openly backed Ravi Shastri for the coaching role.

Former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy are the CAC members. They will conduct this whole interview process on Friday.
