Ravi Shastri Might Retain His Head Coach Role – BCCI Official
It seems like Ravi Shastri set to continue in his Head coach role for the Indian National Cricket Team despite losing the world cup in semifinals. The latest reports surfaced on the media tells that the preference will be given to Ravi Shastri if he reapplies for the role, which he is currently holding.
Earlier, his interview from Bangkok for the Head Coach and his subsequent tiff with Sourav Ganguly made headlines, but after Anil Kumble’s unceremonious exit after the 2017 Champions Trophy, he was back in the chair.
Together with skipper Virat Kohli, he’s formed an aggressive, bordering on the arrogant, combo, but it’s one that’s delivering the right results for the side. Under his coaching tenure, India are the number one Test side in the world cricket and 2nd in the ODI format of the game.
One bad match doesn’t make Ravi Shastri bad – BCCI
Apart from the home series loss against Australia and the world cup exit in the semifinal, Ravi Shastri has done a decent job for his team as the head coach. Alongside him, Bharat Arun also did a fantastic job by sharpening the skills of the bowling unit, which is one of the lethal bowling attacks in the world across the formats.
Skipper Virat Kohli and some of the players are also impressed with Shastri’s style of functioning and want him to be reappointed as the head coach of the Indian team.
“Ravi (Shastri) has done everything right for the team. They have become No.1 in Tests, they were No.2 in ODIs till England took over. One bad match does not make the coach bad. If he reapplies he will get preference,” a BCCI official told NDTV.
Well, with the past achievements and the backing from the Indian team players, Ravi Shastri is likely to be reappointed as the head coach of the team if he applies for the role once again.
For now, Ravi Shastri and support staff have been given a 45-day contract extension after the World Cup. They will remain in charge of Team India for the three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests to be played during the tour of the West Indies from August 3 to September 3.
