Shastri was appointed as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team on July 11, succeeding Anil Kumble. The latter stepped down from the post due to the untenable relation with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

The news of a tussle between Kohli and Kumble came to notice just a few days ahead of the start of ICC Champions Trophy. Kohli dismissed the rumours a day ahead of India’s first game against Pakistan, but as soon as the tournament came to an end, Kumble tendered his resignation and did not travel to West Indies, despite been given an extension by the board.

The matter came to an end just a few days later when Kohli did not comment on this issue after reaching West Indies.

As expected, Ravi Shastri made a comeback to the team and also brought back Bharat Arun as the bowling coach of the team. Sanjay Bangar was elevated to the post of the Assistant Coach from batting coach.

Incidentally, there has been no increase in salary of Sanjay Bangar as earlier as well he was paid a fee around 10 lakh/ month and this time too, the amount which he received is same.

Apart from these two, MS Dhoni was also paid an amount of Rs 57,88,373 as a share of the gross revenue of international tournament played by the Indian team outside a home in the year 2015/16.
