India’s head coach Ravi Shastri will continue to serve as his role of the head coach until the 2021 T20 World Cup, Cricket Advisory Committee confirmed on Friday in Mumbai. Other applicants who had applied for the prestigious job were  Lalchand Rajput (India team manager at WT20 2007), Robin Singh (former India fielding coach), Tom Moody (Sri Lanka coach at WC 2007), Mike Hesson (New Zealand coach at WC 2015) and Phil Simmons (West Indies coach at WT20 2016).

The interviews were conducted in the morning by CAC members, Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy. Meanwhile, Lalchand Rajput, Mike Hesson, and Robin Singh were present in Mumbai whereas Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, and Ravi Shastri gave a video interview.

Shastri holds on to his position.

In fact, Shastri re-appointment as head coach was always on the cards as he shares a great bonhomie with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Furthermore, Kohli had also made it clear that the team would once again like to have Ravi Shastri as the head coach. Kohli had said that the whole team shares a great camaraderie with Ravi Shastri before departing to West Indies.

Furthermore, Shastri had an impressive record during his tenure as the coach, which gave a push to his case. In Shastri’s tutelage, India went on win 11 Test matches out of the 21 they played which included historic Test series win on Australian soil.

Moreover, the Men in Blue won 44 out of the 64 matches under Shastri stint as coach. Virat Kohli-led side won 25 out of the 36 T20I they played under the eyes of Ravi Shastri.

On the other hand, Cricket Advisory head Kapil Dev also revealed the top three contenders. Australia’s former all-rounder Tom Moody got the third place whereas former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson got the second place. Ravi Shastri was able to hold on to the numero uno position in the interview conducted.
