Ravi Shastri Wanted Bharat Arun As Bowling Coach, Not Zaheer Khan 1

Ravi Shastri being given the job of the Head Coach of Indian cricket team was inevitable but along with him, his former coaching staff was also expected to make a comeback in the Indian team, which had likes of Bharat Arun – the bowling coach of Indian cricket team when Shastri was the team director.

It came to notice that Shastri wanted his whole coaching staff back if appointed as the Head Coach but this didn’t happen. Already Sourav Ganguly objected the appointment of Shastri in the role and the new Head Coach had no choice but to accept CAC’s recommendation, according to which Zaheer Khan was appointed as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team,

“Sourav was brought around and convinced about Ravi after it was agreed that Zaheer would be made the bowling coach. Zaheer is such a name that no one could have possibly objected to due to his repertoire of knowledge and a fantastic relation with the current crop,” a source told PTI.

Looking at this, it can be computed that Sourav Ganguly only gave a green signal to Shastri’s appointment after ensuring that Zaheer will be given the charge of a bowling coach. Along with Shastri, BCCI surprisingly appointed Rahul Dravid as the batting coach of Indian cricket team for foreign Test tours.

Though it had been reported many times that BCCI is in talks with Zaheer over his appointment in the role but every time, there was one of the other constraints as sometimes Zaheer’s availability was a reason for delay whereas on other occasions, his fees were out of BCCI’s budget. Though a few months ago, Zaheer had indicated that he will take up the role and finally, he landed with the job officially, till 2019 World Cup.

The good part of his job is that he has played with almost each bowler in the pack and it will be easy for him to communicate with them and also guide a new bowler coming in from India A or U19 ranks.
